Episode Eleven: A Spoon too short

This time we take a look at the second Dirk Gently comic, released a few months before the premiere of the 2016 TV show. This time Arvind Ethan David writes for Dirk, for the first time since his famous Dirk Gently play. Also we look at an unreleased short one-page comic that Arvind released to the public earlier this month.

Holistic Interrogation #1: Sally-Anne Rafferty

Last week I did the podcast’s first ever interview with Dirk Gently play director Sally-Anne Rafferty. It is my hope that we’ll be able to have further guests on the podcast in future. Sally-Anne talked about her experience in Am Dram as well as her love for Douglas Adams and the challenges faced in putting on the play. It was a real blast, and I now can’t wait to go and see the play myself!

Introduction

Hello,

I’m Ed, and together with my co-hosts we are creating a podcast dedicated to Douglas Adams’ detective/Sci-Fi series Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency, and it’s various different adaptations. At the moment we’re using the working title: “The Electric Monks”. (In reference to the first book)

We will be covering:

The Books

The 2007-2008 Radio Dramatisations

Dirk BBC Radio.jpg

All 4 Episodes of the 2010-2012 BBC4 TV Series

All 18 Episodes of the 2016-2017 BBC America Series

The Comic Book series

…And whatever else we can find to talk about!

We will of course have guest spots on our podcast which we hope to occupy with a rotating panel of guests. (We’ll take anyone really, but much like Dirk’s secretary we will be unable to pay them any salary)

Hopefully we will be able to record our pilot episode as soon as I have finished writing a rough script for it; it will serve as an introduction to the original author, Douglas Adams himself, his life and his works. Hopefully it proves to be informative and entertaining.

Now all I have to do is figure out how Spotify podcasts work…

Thanks,

Ed.

P.S. Credit to Superdunk on DeviantArt for the artist’s interpretation of the Electric Monk. Just what is an electric monk, you may ask? Well…

“The Electric Monk was a labour-saving device, like a dishwasher or a video recorder… Electric Monks believed things for you, thus saving you what was becoming an increasingly onerous task, that of believing all the things the world expected you to believe.” — Douglas Adams, Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
